The Phoenix Fold
フェニックス褶曲/Phoenix Syukyoku
- National Parks Special Protection Area
Details
The Phoenix Fold is one of the Geopark’s most visually impactful sites, and also the most difficult one to access. The geological strata here are sharply folded, a phenomenon caused by the force of tectonic plates pushing deep-sea sediment toward the land. The layers composed of mud cracked during this process, but the layers of sand seem to have been soft enough to bend without breaking.
