Three Landmasses Formed by Convergence of Tectonic Plates

In Nanki Kumano Geopark, you can see three different geologic bodies which were occurred by the subduction of the crustal plate.

Here, you can experience many kinds of excellent nature and culture, such as unique sceneries, a wide variety of plants and animals, the Kumano faith, rafting and the like, created by the three different geologic bodies.

The area consists of 9 places in Wakayama Prefecture; Shingu City, Shirahama Town, Kamitonda Town, Susami Town, Nachikatsuura Town, Taiji Town, Kozagawa Town, Kitayama Village, Kushimoto Town, and a part of Totsukawa Village in Nara Prefecture.

Disaster prevention

Disaster prevention

Especially after the Great East Japan Earthquake in 2011, further consideration and practice performance of the escape route based on the tsunami hazard map had been taken more seriously than the past in whole coastal area. Evacuation sites are being improved and voluntary disaster prevention organizations (groups) increased its number.
The prevention of tsunami disaster is underway with self-help (assistance), mutual-help and public-help as one.
