Three Landmasses Formed at the Confluence of Plates
The Nanki-Kumano Geopark offers a unique opportunity to explore three distinct landscapes formed by plate subduction, along with unique scenery they create, diverse wildlife fostered by the warm, humid climate, and cultural traditions such as the Kumano nature-based faith and rafting that have emerged from these natural settings.
This geopark spans 10 municipalities in Wakayama Prefecture: Shingu City, Shirahama Town, Kamitonda Town, Susami Town, Nachikatsuura Town, Taiji Town, Kozagawa Town, Kitayama Village, Kushimoto Town, and part of Totsukawa Village in Nara Prefecture.
