Completely charming on both sunny and rainy days

Saki-no-Yu is a hot spring that seems to jut out into the sea. As you are soaking in the hot spring bath here, you can clearely view the deep blue ocean stretching as far as the eyes can see and the spray of the waves crashing against the rocks. On days when the wind is strong and the waves high, the sea water splashes into the bath, presenting a powerful sight. On sunny days you can feel refreshed as you gaze out at the ocean, and on cloudy or rainy days you can enjoy the moist atmosphere as you gaze out at the smoky sea. This place is recommended because you can always see spectacular scenery whenever you visit.(©NANKISHIRAHAMA TOURISM ASSOCIATION)

Hot spring water quality that doesn’t cool down easily

The hot spring water is characterized by its chloride content, which prevents the hot water from cooling quickly. There is a bathtub in the women’s bathing area that is made from cypress produced in Shirahama and releases a pleasant faintly cypress fragrance. The bath temperature is adjusted according to the atmospheric temperature of the day to be cool (between 38 ℃ and 40 ℃) in summer and hot (between 41 ℃ and 43 ℃) in winter, so you can enjoy comfortable bathing all year round.

A famous hot spring which was visited by successive emperors.

A natural hot spring basin carved by waves, Saki-no-Yu is one of the oldest hot springs in Japan alongside Arima Onsen (Hyogo Prefecture) and Dogo Onsen (Ehime Prefecture). The Nihon Shoki (Chronicles of Japan), records that Emperess Saimei and Emperors Tenji, Jitô, and Monmu, who ruled from the 7th to the 8th century, bathed here.
