The Umikongo Rocks
海金剛/Umikongo
- Yoshino-Kumano National Park
Details
Kii-Oshima Island, where Kashinozaki Point is located, consists of igneous rocks formed when volcanic ash and magma erupted from the seabed and solidified prior to the major volcanic activity of Nanki-Kumano. The igneous rocks are visible at Umi-Kongo, where waves have worn away the rocks along cracks formed when the magma cooled and hardened, resulting in formations with sharp corners.
