Ugui Peninsula
宇久井半島/Ugui Hanto
- Yoshino-Kumano National Park
Details
Originally, the Ugui Peninsula was an isolated landform composed of igneous and sedimentary rocks. Over time, sediment transported by ocean currents filled the gap between the peninsula and the mainland, creating a natural sandy connection. The peninsula supports lush vegetation nurtured by its warm and humid climate, and colonies of plants typically found in broadleaf forests in Japan, such as Suda-jii (Japanese chinquapin) and Tabu-no-ki (Machilus thunbergii) can be seen. A fantastic luminous mushroom called Shiino-tomoshibi-take (Mycena lux-coeli) also grows here.
