River Change Ruins in Tonda-gawa River
富田川の川替え跡/Tonda-gawa no Kawakaeato
- Natural Monument (National Designation)
Details
Evidence of river improvement works can be seen on the Tonda Riverbed, where hillls along the river were flattened. These modifications are believed to have been carried out around the latter half of the 16th century. By reshaping the river, the risk of flood damage was reduced and new rice fields were able to be created in areas where the river had previously flowed. These modifications may become obscured by sediment after floods.
