Land-tied Island in Shionomisaki
潮岬の陸繋島/Shionomisaki no Rikukeito
- Yoshino-Kumano National Park
Details
Cape Shionomisaki, originally an island near Honshu, became connected to the mainland by sediment accumulation, forming a sandy stretch known as a sand bar. Archaeological finds from the Yayoi period, the Kasashima Ruins, were discovered at the site of Kushimoto Koza High School, located on part of this sandbar. Now the town of Kushimoto occupies the sand bar.
