The Koza-kaido Highway, once a vital thoroughfare for merchants and pilgrims on the Saigoku Kannon Pilgrimage during and after the Edo era, is now celebrated as one of Japan’s “100 Historic Roads.” Traversing from Tanabe to Koza, this route is lined with historic stone walls and cobblestones, offering a glimpse into the past. In the scenic Samoto Valley, visitors can observe strata of layered sedimentary rock.
