大島の火成岩

The Igneous Rock in Kii-Oshima Island

大島の火成岩/Oshima no Kaseigan

  • Yoshino-Kumano National Park

Details

Kii-Oshima Island is believed to have formed about 17 million years ago, just before the extensive volcanic activity of Nanki-Kumano about 15 million years ago. Initially, volcanic eruptions on the seabed spewed ash that settled and solidified into layers. Subsequent magma eruptions from beneath these layers further enlarged the island.
