Katsuura Onsen
勝浦温泉/Katsuura Onsen
- Yoshino-Kumano National Park
Details
This location is detailed in a 1707 document as “Akashima Onsen at the edge of the waves,” the oldest record of hot springs found along the shoreline. One theory explaining the presence of the hot springs is that they are fueled by deep subterranean waters heated by tectonic subduction, that mix with groundwater and seawater to emerge through fissures in the earth.
