ジゴ/Jigo

  • Yoshino-Kumano National Park

Details

Jigo was one of the most difficult spots to run lumber rafts, so the river was altered to make it easier. There is a record of this construction from 1744 inscribed on a rock face along the river. Near the entrance to Jigo, there is a place where “ikada-shi,” or rafters, visit, even in modern days, to pray for their safety.
