The River Terrace in Ichinose
市ノ瀬の河岸段丘/Ichinose no Kagandankyu
Details
This flat, elevated terrain along the Tonda River was originally the riverbed or riverbank. The area was shaped by river erosion into a flat expanse, but subsequent changes in the river’s course allowed the area to emerge as dry land. These geographical features are known as river terraces. Atop the terrace, there is a reservoir utilized for rice and fruit tree cultivation. It is also known that a prominent samurai from the Muromachi era (1336-1573) once had a residence here.
