Current Ripple Marks in Goshonomoto
御所本のカレントリップル/Goshonomoto no Karentorippuru
- Natural Monument (Prefectural Designation)
Details
A regular pattern of undulations can be observed on the surface of this formation. This pattern is called current ripples; they were created by water currents depositing sand on the seafloor. It is a clue to understanding the depositional environment, as it allows us to estimate the direction of the water flow at the time the stratum was formed.
