Details
Dorohaccho Gorge is a unique, deep valley with a gently flowing river. The cliffs are so steep due to sedimentary rock being heated and hardened by nearby magma, which made them resistant to the erosion of the river. In some places the river is more than 20m deep. This creates pools of gently flowing water, or ‘toro’. Haccho means 8 ‘cho’ in length, which is about 900m, the length of the gentle flowing section.
