Takakura-jinja Shrine Ruins in Aisukanmaru

相須神丸(アイスカンマル)の高倉神社跡/Aisukanmaru no Takakurajinja-ato

Details

On the banks of the Akagi River are the ruins of a shrine that had no main building. It is one of the manifestations of nature worship in the Kumano region, as the rocks on the riverbank are the object of worship. The rocks are sandstone deposited in a relatively shallow sea. In front of the site, the river is deeper in the curves. This is where people used to store timber from the mountains. Around the end of the Taisho era (1912–1926), the shrine was moved and merged with the Takakura Shrine downstream in Hitari.
