Water leisure activities in the sea
Lush green forests; sparkling clear, streams; and the deep blue ocean into which the streams flow. One characteristic of the Nanki Kumano Geopark area is the large amount of rain it receives due to the influence of the Kuroshio Current. There are also plenty of activities allowing you to experience these water blessings with your whole body. Here we introduce sea activities.
Diving
The southern part of the Kii Peninsula is where one of the world’s warmest currents approaches the shores of Honshu most closely. Accordingly, it is one of the world’s most precious diving spots where you can see both temperate and tropical fish, and it is also the northern limit of large coral communities. You can enjoy diving and snorkeling at Shirahama and Kushimoto.
Sea Kayaking and SUP (Stand-Up-Paddleboard)
While the fast Kuroshio Current flows through the coastal areas of the Nanki Kumano Geopark, many inlets and giant rocks provide numerous relatively calm rocky shores. Sea Kayaking and SUP (Stand-Up-Paddleboard) allows you to become one with the rolling waves. Gazing at the land from the sea, you can fully sense nature’s magnificence.
