Details

Surrounded by wetlands, this shrine forest is noted for its biodiversity, flourishing because of the mild and humid climate. A local legend suggests that this forest was carried here from the upper reaches of the Oka River during a flood. The forest is cherished and carefully preserved by the community. Notably, the wisteria here was named “Okafuji” by the esteemed naturalist Minakata Kumagusu, a name fondly used by locals today.
