Mudstone Dike in Shirahama

Details
This formation, called a mudstone vein, was caused by re-liquefied mud breaking through the hardened sandstone strata above it, and then hardening. This is a unique place that allows us to study these veins in three dimensions. It’s common for hot springs to appear near areas where these formations are present.
