Tano-saki Point

田の崎/Tano-saki

  • Yoshino-Kumano National Park

Details

The boundaries of geological strata of two different ages can be observed at Tanosaki. The time of formation of each stratum differs by almost 10 million years. At Tanosaki, fossils of bivalves that used methane from the bottom of the deep sea as a source of energy to live have been found. The fossils are expected to provide insight into the environment at the time the geological strata were formed.
