Port Ruins in Manago
真砂の舟着き場跡/Manago no Funatsukijo-ato
- prefectural natural park
Details
It’s hard to imagine now, but this was once a hub of river transportation. There is a waterfal upstream. so boats stopped here at Manago. Naturally eroded indentations on the bank were used to moor boats. Charcoal and other materials brought from upstream by land were transported by boat from here downstream to Koza at the mouth of the river. The boats had flat bottoms to navigate shallow areas.
