The Rock Gate of Wada
和田の岩門/Wada no Sekimon
Details
The residence of the Wada family used to be located in this short cave between the beach and a residential area. The Wada family is known as the founder of Taiji’s ancient whaling tradition. The cave was used as a service gate, but is now used as a pathway for residents. One Edo era book describes that “the mountain was cut out to form the gate.”
