Details
Tomyo-zaki Cape is a promontory of thick sandstone strata. The cliffs are topped by flat land and offer a view of the Pacific Ocean. The first lighthouse that used whale oil in Japan was located here. It was also used as one of the “Yamami” lookouts from which people commanded boats out to sea in the old-style whaling that continued until the Meiji era (1868-1912).
