嶋津の筏師の道/Shimazu no Ikadashi no Michi
- Natural Monument (City Designated)
- Yoshino-Kumano National Park
Details
This is one section of the ‘Ikadashi no Michi,’ or Rafter’s Path. Professional lumber rafters used to guide large rafts of lumber from the mountains down the rivers to the mills or ports in Shingu City, and walk back to their villages via the path. Locals also used it in their every day lives, and the paths crisscrossed the Kumano River basin. The Shimazu Rafter’s Path passes through a village built on an island in the middle of the river.
