This rock surface is made of thick sandstone and conglomerate stratum of the Tanabe strata. In the conglomerate part of the wall, there are numerous “wormholes” that are formed by weathering. These holes that look like honeycombs are called tafoni and thought to be made by the dissolution and the separation of saline inside the stratum.
