Kushima island and Suzushima island

Clinounconformity of Muro Group and Kumano Group can be observed on the wave cut shelf of the south side. A clumping trace in Pomatoleios Kraussii which suggests protuberance by Nankai-trough earthquake is seen in Suzushima island on the north side. Kushima island is a breeding area in Styan’s Grasshopper Warbler which is the rare bird internationally.

Koya-zaka Slope

This is a mountain path from Ojigahama Coast to Miwa-saki Point. You can get a bird’s-eye view of the distant view of the Ojigahama Coast from the pass neighborhood on Kumano Kodo where it’s located in a southern extremity on a Ojigahama Coast and is over the hardest part of a granite porphyry of Kumano acidic rocks.There are several stelae and ksitigarbha with the Rokuji Myogo (six characters) of ‘Namu Amida Buddha’ dotted along the road.

Ojigahama Coast

Ojigahama Coast
The gravel carried to Kumano-gawa River mouth of a river was formed by carriage of a coastal current and sedimentation as a bar (rekisu) in a Ojigahama Coast. Such coast leads from Shingu City to Kumano City. It’s possible to enjoy an open view and sound on a pellet beach in the Pacific Ocean. It’s also famous as a laying place by the loggerhead turtles. It’s also a place by the purge of Shinto Ceremony.

Mt. Horaisan

Mt. Horaisan

Mt. Horaisan is a hummock which consists of granite porphyry of Kumano acidic rocks. It’s said that a party of jofuku which received an order of the first Qin Emperor landed aiming at Mt. Horaisan. It was being looked up to as the sacred mountain where God descends to earth more than antiquity.Asuka-jinja Shrine is in southern foot at a ritual place from the old days facing Kumano-gawa River.

Shingu Castle Ruins

Shingu Castle Ruins

This is called Tankaku Castle at a castle resided trace of Mr. Shingu seigneur Mizuno facing Kumano-gawa River, too. A granite porphyry of Kumano acidic rocks was built on the made mountain. A granite porphyry is used for a stone wall of a castle. It’s located in Kumano-gawa River mouth of a river and is built in an important point of traffic in a river and a sea, and there is a charcoal barn mark in a riverside.

Ukijima-no-Mori Island

Ukijima-no-Mori Island

An island made from a peat floating body.Though the west side of the island floats,a penumbra in an island is fixed by inflow earth and sand.This inplies that ponds and swamps expanded inside the Ojigahama Coast formerly. It was designated as a national natural monument in 1927 as Shingu rush swamp Ukijima plant community.

Gotobiki-iwa Rock of Mt. Kamikurasan

Gotobiki-iwa Rock of Mt. Kamikurasan

A granite porphyry of Kumano acidic rocks is weathered and is a big rock enshrined in the inclination of the mountain by the form of the toad. The rock which weathered in such globular shape is called a core stone.This is a ritual leading part in Kumano Oto Festival (prefecture designation intangible folk cultural properties).

Kuwanoki Falls

Kuwanoki Falls
The fall was also chosen as best 100 Jpanese falls. The very elegant fall which is ahead of about 500 m of esplanade from an entrance. A rock face is from a granite porphyry, prismatic structure is seen.

Kuri-kyo Gorge

Kuri-kyo Gorge

A deep canyon is formed because Kumano-gawa River eroded a granite porphyry of Kumano acidic rocks from Tanago to Shingu. It’s possible to observe the rock face where prismatic structure developed and a strangely shaped rock in a riverbank in a gorge. After calling on Hongu, former pilgrimage to Kumano came down to Shingu by gabbard and aimed at Nachi after that. Gabbard descent in “visit on a river way” Kumanogawa restored in 2005.
