Arafune Coast

Alternation of sandstone and mudstone with a lot of ratio of the mudstone of Kumano Group is distributed. An accumulated stratum stands up at the angle near the verticalness by crustal alteration levelly, and the reversed state drops in and can observe at the top and the bottom of the stratum. Nachikatsuura Town area on Arafune Coast is perfect natural coast. Beautiful sea fog is seen in winter around the entrance of the Arafune Coast.

Kuroshima Island and Taijima Island are made of Kowloon island conglomerate layer including a pellet of Kumano acidic rocks. There are many caves in Kuroshima Island, and it’s possible to see a mark of a nest of Spirobranchus Kraussii. A warm place, there is a cave of a plant community and big and small, and a folk tale as a tryst of once a year of the snake and the sea bream which concern beginning of Kochi Festival is left. The magma which rose from underground, about 15-14 million years ago, is a dike of the quartz porphyry intruded into Kumano Group. It’s said that hyoureki where a dike is rotted and interspersed among a wave food shelf was carried by a tidal wave by a disastrous earthquake. (Note: Hashigui-iwa Rock is also included in Japanese geological feature hundred pieces “Kozagawa arc-shaped dike”.) a folk tale of Kobo Daishi and a perverse person and a folk tale of a honest person and a green turtle are left. Jigoku-no-Kama Cave

A big hole whole rhyolitic pyroclastic rock distributed over Kii Oshima has. It’s thought that the ceiling of the wave erosion cave which consists of igneous rock fell. The bottom is connected with a sea. (Six copies of ascetic who puts a sutra in sixty-six holy grounds and goes around) is chased by 2 warriors formerly, and there is a legend which was run down to the depths in this hole, was killed and fell to the bottom.

Igneous Rock in Kii-Oshima Island

Igneous complex which consists of rhyolite formed out of Kii Oshima about 14-15 million years ago and ryuumon lithologic character fire rock crushing. Rhyolite lava and a penetration rock cover ryuumon rock quality fire rock crushing up, and the sedimentary structure which flowed in the water in the part is seen by ryuumon rock quality fire rock crushing.

Igneous Rock in Shionomisaki

Igneous Rock in Shionomisaki

The igneous complex formed by a movement of a complicated magma 14-15 million years ago . Various igneous rocks are also intermingled at a coast of Naishobae and Nabiraka. It’s possible to observe a boundary of an igneous rock made from the pillow lava which is product and between the magmas different in a dike cluster and a chemical ingredient in a submarine volcano at a coast around the Shionomisaki-todai Lighthouse. Shionomisaki-todai Lighthouse and Shionomisaki-jinja Shrine are on the cliff of an igneous rock. Shionomisaki-todai Lighthouse lights up temporarily in 1870, in 1873, this, the Western style wooden lighthouse at the beginning of Japan which lit up. You could be reconstructed in stone structure and use”Utsugi-ishi” made in Kozagawa Town in 1878. Pillow lava is used for Ishigaki in Shionomisaki-jinja Shrine.

Coastal Terrace in Shionomisaki

Coastal Terrace in Shionomisaki

A Coastal Terrace of second dan develops into Shionomisaki. Because a seashore pellet is mentioned on the terrace, I know that this flat face was the wave food shelf formed around the seawater face formerly. Even the present height repeated protuberance every disastrous earthquake which occurs at Nankai-trough, and was lifted.

Land-tied Island in Shionomisaki

The gravel which flows from a mouth of a river is carried by a coastal current, and a bar is formed. Shionomisaki was an island originally, but a bar grew to Shionomisaki (island) in an offing from the land side, and it was tied and was Land-tied Island soon. A part in a bar is called tying bar. Streets in Kushimoto have formed on this bar. There is Kasajima remains in the Yayoi Era in the southern extremity part in a bar.

Tsunami Attain Mark Post in Fukuro

Leveling pole of tidal wave arrival of a Showa southern sea earthquake (1946). The arrival water level of the tidal wave (about 7.9 m) is indicated by the inclination of the mountain. There is topography-like feature by which a tidal wave becomes high around the bag, and flooding shin assumed by the next disastrous earthquake at Nankai-trough becomes bigger than a circumference area.

Tano-saki Point

Tano-saki Point

A relation of a stratum group different in the time when I accumulated big is called the adjustment-lessness. Non-adjustment relation between the Muro Group of accretionary prism who accomplishes a foundation in Kii Peninsula and Kumano Group of a forearc basin deposits who accumulated on it can be observed here. The time difference is about 10 million years in accumulation of a two layer group. Movement of a plate also continued between it, and forearc basin was formed newly on the accretionary prism.

The fold which showed on the wave-cut bench can be observed. A megalith with a possibility of the tidal wave stone is scattered. Kumano Kodo Ohechi Route passes through the coast, I have that along a route. It’s made of alternation of sandstone and mudstone of Muro Group.

Sarashikubi Stratum

A big pellet is scattered just like”someone’s head on public display” on the wave food shelf of Tagonoura. This mudrock formation including the big pellet formed by submarine mudslide formerly is called Sarashikubi Startum. A continent slope made of accretionary prism (Muro Group) is rotted, and submarine mudslide occurs, and it’s said that they accumulated on the continent slope made of Muro Group.

Alternation of Sandstone and mudstone by which sandstone and mudstone piled up alternately is called “Turbidaite” by the stratum accumulated in an alluvial fan in a trench. The trace (sole mark) which indicates the direction of the turbulent flow  (turbidity current) which carried sand and mud to an underside of a stratum is seen. Wabuka Coast is a spot ideal for stratum observation of the accretionary prism out of which a foundation is formed in Kii Peninsula.

Square well-like arrangement of a garden stone is left at the hot spring where I was gushing naturally until the southern sea earthquake in Showa of 1946 along Kozagawa arc-shaped dike, and you’re telling that it was used by the shape like the footbath. The character of “Yakushi Nyorai” and Buddhist statue are carved on the surrounding bedrock, and I can ask that it was used as a therapeutic bath from the old days.
